Sustainability

More than just tailpipe emissions – a vehicle for change

Climate change is widely recognised as the single greatest threat to our existence. Fuelling this crisis are diesel trucks, responsible for 23% of road-going CO2 emissions, despite only accounting for 2% of vehicles on the road.

We are the first generation to feel the effects of climate change, and the last who can do something about it.

As a full-electric commercial vehicle brand, sustainability is at our core. By 2025, our vehicles will have saved around

0

tonnes of tailpipe CO2 from the atmosphere – the equivalent annual CO2 emissions of 170,000 houses. The Volta Zero also eliminates tailpipe NOx – a leading cause of poor air quality which will contribute to 183,600 premature deaths by 2040 unless action is taken now.

Sustainable Development Goals

The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) call to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity by 2030. Achieving the SDGs requires business, government, and citizens to work together so we leave a better planet for future generations.

Our solutions offer our customers the opportunity to achieve their own environmental goals at greater pace. Volta Trucks is committed to working towards improving the future of local and global communities through the framework of three key goals.

Today’s vehicle for tomorrow’s generation

Sustainability is more than just tailpipe emissions – it’s about the wider environmental and societal challenges that must be addressed today. We have a responsibility and opportunity to be part of the solution to some of the defining societal challenges of our time. Our vision demonstrates that sustainability is at the core of why we exist. We are developing the capacity to continually reduce the overall environmental impact of our vehicles and the components they’re built from, through to our supply chain and manufacturing footprint.

We have optimised the load-carrying capacity of our trucks so that operators can use fewer delivery vehicles. This means that just one Volta Zero can remove up to five smaller vans from the roads, reducing congestion on city streets and improving air quality for all.

Our comprehensive Life-Cycle Analysis will allow us to minimise the environmental impacts of our vehicles from design through to manufacture, evaluating the greenhouse gas emissions and other environmental impacts over the vehicle’s complete life cycle. This will enable us to identify further development opportunities for future variants of the Volta Zero.

Circular Efficiency

We know that the transition to electric vehicles and clean energy needs to shift away from a reliance on natural resources. Therefore, we are committed to becoming a circular business through enhanced resource efficiency and the elimination of waste to landfill over the Volta Zero’s lifecycle.

Conventional commercial vehicle business models place ownership and responsibility for the product lifecycle on the customer. Our Circular business model ensures we are responsible for the repair and recycling, and we are therefore incentivised to design a truck that is built to last. Truck as a Service (TaaS) ensures that our vehicles last longer. Our innovative solution covers software and hardware updates, general vehicle maintenance and servicing, through to end-of-life battery plans, ensuring that we achieve zero waste to landfill. Our Volta Trucks Hubs will also be built on the highest ratings of sustainable designs, construction, refurbishment, fit-out, and operation.

Our Supply Chain

Our forthcoming Supplier Sustainability Assurance process demonstrates our commitment to working with suppliers who share our goals to enhance health & safety, working conditions, environmental standards, and human rights across our supply chain. Transparency is also key – we are implementing solutions to understand the source of all critical raw materials in our supply chain and ensure the highest ethical standards in our procurement processes.

Future-proofing excellence

Volta Trucks has committed to long-term environmental protection through the development of Quality and Environmental Management Systems which monitors and control all aspects of the business to ensure we fulfil and excel internal and industry-common standards. Through our achievement of ISO 9001 certification and our commitment to achieving ISO 14001 certification, we will meet strict international environmental requirements across the business and sustain continuous improvements.

Educating Talent

Sustainability awareness is embedded within our daily decision-making processes across the organisation. To enable this, we pioneer Sustainability Champions, an initiative which looks to educate and encourage collaboration across diverse perspectives. People are at the heart of everything we do, and our employees are proud to play a part in this. Meet the team here.
