Driving Towards Sustainable Cities: Importance of Collaboration with Policy
Rob Gwynn| July 2023
At Volta Trucks, we recognize the importance of cooperation between the private and public sectors, to help us better understand what is needed to achieve our goals. We consider it to be vital that private companies like ours are involved in the formation of these ambitious policies to work with policy makers on what is possible and what the sector needs to succeed. This way, we can more effectively align our resources, investments, and innovations to these shared objectives. Realising this, we work hard to support policy as a tool to help leverage our actions and decisions.
As we celebrate the successful opening of our Tottenham Truck as a Service Hub, the visit by the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, and local Member of Parliament, David Lammy represents another major milestone for Volta Trucks as we continue our mission to support green policies and pave the way for a more sustainable future in urban logistics. It also serves as a compelling indicator of how policy and strategic collaboration can play a leading role in propelling us towards achieving our vision.
During the visit, Mayor Khan and Mr Lammy had the opportunity to tour our facility and become acquainted with the Volta Zero, our all-electric truck designed specifically for commercial use in urban areas, and how this investment in London has been made to service and maintain these vehicles for our customers. He was impressed by our commitment to sustainability and praised our efforts to reduce carbon emissions, promote clean air and improve road safety.
“The Volta Zero is a game-changer for the commercial electric truck industry. It’s impressive to see companies like Volta Trucks leading the way in promoting sustainable solutions for city logistics.”
Sadiq Khan
Mayor of London
The mayor’s endorsement of our approach to sustainability is a powerful validation of our work and vision, and we are proud to be part of a growing movement of companies focused on reducing carbon emissions and the overall environmental impact. As such, it highlights the importance of the role that public-private partnerships play in helping us to achieve these goals.
Our Centre of Excellence has been designed with sustainability in mind with the use of recycled materials and geothermal heating and cooling systems to reduce our carbon footprint. This has been validated by the building achieving an ‘Excellent’ BREEAM rating. In addition, the centre will also incorporate a Volta Trucks Academy Training centre to train and upskill electric vehicle technicians creating green jobs.
“It is great for Tottenham to have Volta Trucks leading the way with this state-of-the-art facility creating new green jobs, developing future talent, and bringing investment. It is vital to have these next generation of trucks on our roads to improve road safety and air quality with the workforce in place to support them.”
Rt. Hon David Lammy
MP for Tottenham
We believe that the future of transport is electric, and our goal is to help build a cleaner, brighter, and safer world for generations to come. With the ambitious and bold policies that leaders like Sadiq Khan have implemented, we are confident that we can make a real difference in creating a more sustainable future for us all.
