World EV Day

By Volta Trucks

Volta Trucks has been on a fast-paced journey over the past 12 months, since launching the full- electric Volta Zero in September 2020. Shortly after this significant milestone, the company was pleased to become a Founding Partner of the World EV Day.

The World EV Day delivered a successful digital campaign throughout 2021, attaining a global media reach of 1.9 billion. Over the past year, since the first World EV Day, Volta Trucks has also grown, with a head count of over 150 people and has attracted significant levels of interest, traction, and investment, enabling the rapid transition from start-up to scale-up.

During the week of the World EV Day, Volta Trucks announced that it had signed a manufacturing agreement with Steyr Automotive, formerly MAN Truck and Bus Austria, where series production of the Volta Zero will commence at the end of 2022. This will follow customer trials of Pilot Fleet vehicles that will commence mid-next year in London and Paris. This marks a pivotal point for Volta Trucks as the partnership forms an integral part of the company’s Road-to- Zero Emissions strategy, with vehicle manufacturing strategically located near launch markets to reduce the environmental footprint of vehicle distribution.

In her World EV Day address, President Biden’s National Climate Adviser, Gina McCarthy, emphasised that now, more than ever, progressive EV development forms a crucial part of decarbonised mobility in the U.S. as weather patterns continue to shift at an alarming rate. In support of this position, Volta Trucks looks to make the U.S. a significant part of its future strategy in driving forward the new era of safe and sustainable transport as it looks beyond its initial launch markets of London and Paris, and city-by-city roll out in Europe.

The UK government’s Cabinet Office also supports the World EV Day with its COP26 net zero commitments. Volta Trucks’ Road-to-Zero Emissions strategy, released in May 2021, saw the company announce four Volta Zero models ranging from 7.5 to 19 tonnes, with more than 27,000 units built per year by 2025. This speed-to-market approach looks to facilitate the rapid deployment of full-electric vehicles for sustainability-focused customers.

The World EV Day continues to help, innovate, and progress infrastructure for change in the mobility space. Volta Trucks’ aligned vision will complement the World EV Day’s incentives, through the rapid development, production, and deployment of full-electric large commercial vehicles which will deliver on the decarbonisation of safe and sustainable last-mile logistics.
