We have achieved a successful sustainable building assessment that was carried out on our groundbreaking new Volta Trucks Hub building in London. This building will offer maintenance and servicing for our customers, and office facilities for employees.
This ‘Excellent’ rating was carried out by the Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) – the world’s leading science-based suite of validation and certification systems for sustainable built environments. This rating marks a significant achievement, underlining our firm commitment to sustainability and environmentally friendly practices.
“The incorporation of energy-efficient lighting, insulation, and water conservation minimises resource usage and underlines Volta’s dedication to sustainability.”
BREEAM International Appraisal Report
Emphasis on renewable energy and resource efficiency
A major contributor to the ‘Excellent’ BREEAM rating was our emphasis on renewable energy. Photovoltaic solar panels installed across the facility power a significant portion of the hub’s operations, reducing reliance on fossil fuel-derived electricity and consequently lowering carbon emissions.
The facility also showcases a commitment to resource efficiency. The incorporation of energy-efficient lighting, insulation, and water conservation minimises resource usage and underlines Volta’s dedication to sustainability.
In addition, the hub prioritises occupant well-being, boasting a design that promotes a healthy, productive environment. Features such as ample natural light, green spaces, and facilities for active commuting options like cycling underscore our commitment to a greener lifestyle.
The location of the new Volta Trucks hub was another factor in its BREEAM success. Its proximity to public transport helps reduce reliance on private vehicles and encourages eco-friendly commuting – a value that aligns closely with our mission.
“It’s impressive to see companies like Volta Trucks leading the way in promoting sustainable solutions for city logistics.”
Mayor of London
Visit from the Mayor of London
On his recent visit to the North London hub, the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, gave a glowing endorsement of our product.
“The Volta Zero is a game-changer for the commercial electric truck industry,” Khan noted. “It’s impressive to see companies like Volta Trucks leading the way in promoting sustainable solutions for city logistics.”
His endorsement emphasises the significance of our efforts and the broader impact of our BREEAM rating. Our achievement at Volta Trucks not only sets a benchmark for sustainability in the construction industry but also sends a powerful message to other sectors. Even industries that have been historically associated with environmental degradation, such as transport, can play a key role in driving sustainability.
Leading the way to a sustainable future
BREEAM offers a comprehensive rating system for buildings, considering an array of factors including energy use, health and well-being, pollution, transport, materials, waste, ecology, and management processes. A testament to a building’s ecological and social sustainability, the ‘Excellent’ rating is one of the highest accolades, requiring not just sustainable design and construction, but also ongoing improvements during a building’s operational life.
Volta Trucks earned this impressive rating due to our commitment to a variety of sustainable construction methodologies. These included using environmentally friendly materials, implementing waste reduction strategies, and adopting practices to minimize the carbon footprint of the construction process itself.
