- Norfolk-based CarbonNeutral® Shred Station to trial and purchase the Volta Zero during 2021, as part of their portfolio of low emission vehicles.
- Shred Station is the world’s largest independent shredding company, with a clear focus on their environmental commitments.
Volta Trucks has confirmed that Norfolk-based shredding company, Shred Station Ltd, has joined their Pioneer Programme and will be among the first to trial the Volta Zero – the world’s first purpose-built full electric large commercial vehicle, designed for city-centre operations. Such is their confidence in the vehicle, Shred Station have already confirmed the purchase of a Volta Zero, even before the trial takes place.
Shred Station was recently verified as the world’s largest independent shredding company. Already CarbonNeutral® certified , Shred Station has clear environmental commitments, with the Volta Zero joining a portfolio of low-emission trucks already on the fleet. With its own zero emission and sustainable approach to inner-city logistics, thanks to the full-electric powertrain and sustainable natural flax and biodegradable resin composite body panels, the Volta Zero will perfectly complement Shred Station’s environmental ambitions.
Announcing the trial of the Volta Zero, Shred Station’s Commercial Director, Kristian Carter, said;
“We visit hundreds of sites each week, including many city-centre locations where air pollution is extremely high. Our vehicles already conform to Euro 6 low emission standards, so expanding our electric vehicle portfolio is the next step in further reducing our impacts on the planet. We are at such a crucial point in safeguarding the future of our earth, and change needs to happen now. Electric vehicles are the future, and this is a journey we are excited to be at the forefront of. We don’t want this just to be a trial and have committed to purchasing a vehicle after the completion of the Programme.”
Chief Executive Officer of Volta Trucks, Rob Fowler, added;
“I’m delighted to welcome Shred Station to the Volta Trucks Pioneer Programme, and I am especially pleased to be working alongside a company that shares similar environmental and sustainability ambitions to us. Whatever the logistics need, from shredding to food or furniture deliveries, we need commercial vehicles to be able to operate in city centres, but in a safe and sustainable way that decarbonises the environment and reduces pollution. Learning from the CarbonNeutral experiences of Shred Station in their trial and subsequent purchase of the Volta Zero will bring valuable insights into this important industry sector to us.”

Editor’s notes.
About the Volta Zero.
The Volta Zero is the world’s first purpose-built full-electric 16-tonne vehicle designed for inner-city freight deliveries, reducing the environmental impact of freight deliveries in city centres. Designed from the ground up with an operating pure-electric range of 150 – 200 kms (95 – 125 miles), the Volta Zero will eliminate an estimated 180,000 tonnes of CO 2 by 2025.
Safety is also at the heart of Volta Trucks, with its ambition of being the safest large commercial vehicle manufacturer. The Volta Zero was designed for electric from the outset, which facilitates a step-change in vehicle and pedestrian safety. Thanks to the removal of the internal combustion engine, the operator of a Volta Zero sits in a central driving position, with a much lower seat height than a conventional truck. This combination, plus a glass house-style cab design, gives the driver a wide 220-degrees of visibility, minimising dangerous blind spots.
The first prototype Volta Zero was launched in September 2020, with the first pilot test vehicles due to start evaluation with customers in Q3-2021.
