Volta Trucks to partner with EAVX to provide truck bodies for Volta Zero US pilot fleet

By Volta Trucks

Volta Trucks and J.B. Poindexter & Co, Inc.’s innovation hub, EAVX unite to create custom truck bodies for the Volta Zero.

The bodies are designed and produced specifically for EV vehicles.

The new Pilot Fleet vehicles are expected to launch on US roads for the Driving Experience Programme in late 2023

Volta Trucks, the leading and disruptive all-electric commercial vehicle manufacturer and services provider, has announced a partnership with EAVX, a business unit within J.B. Poindexter & Co., Inc. (JBPCO) whose business units lead North America’s commercial vehicle body market, to build the truck bodies for the upcoming Pilot Fleet of all-electric Volta Zeros in the US for the Driving Experience Programme.

EAVX will utilise JBPCO’s unparalleled market knowledge to lead the development, prototyping, and production of custom bodies and upfits for the Pilot Fleet of Volta Zeros. With significant expertise in manufacturing, tooling, and engineering top-quality production truck bodies for electric commercial vehicles, EAVX understands the importance of integrating the truck bodies precisely to the unique frame design, keeping the batteries safe and accessible, but not adding additional weight.

Combining the Volta Zero’s advanced technology and unique design concept with EAVX’s cutting-edge engineering capabilities, Volta Trucks aims to offer an unrivalled sustainable, safe, and efficient solution for urban delivery fleets in the US. The Volta Zero Pilot Fleet featuring EAVX bodies and technology is expected to hit US roads as part of the Driving Experience Programme in late 2023.

The Driving Experience Programme in the US will be launched for fleet operators to evaluate a Pilot Fleet of Volta Zeros in real distribution environments to understand how the electric delivery trucks will integrate into their operations. A similar program is currently launching across six European countries. The Program in the US will start on the west coast, ahead of a roll out of production vehicles expected in 2024.

Essa Al-Saleh, Chief Executive Officer of Volta Trucks, said:

We are delighted to be partnering with EAVX to bring our Pilot Fleet of electric trucks to the US market. EAVX has a proven track record of designing and engineering innovative mobility solutions and we believe their expertise will be invaluable in creating the optimal cargo body for our trucks. We will take the steps now to ensure the flexibility of our vehicle offering and in turn, meet wider US customer demand, all ensuring the Volta Zero is a stand-out proposition for the important US market.

Mark Hope, General Manager and COO from EAVX added:

We are excited to be working with Volta Trucks on this ground-breaking project. Our team is passionate about creating sustainable mobility solutions and this partnership is a significant step forward in our mission to improve the efficiency of the industry.

Ends.

Notes to Editor

The Volta Zero is the world’s first purpose-built all-electric 16-tonne vehicle designed for urban logistics, reducing the environmental impact of freight deliveries in city centers. The Volta Zero is designed from the ground up with an operating pure-electric range of 150 – 200 kms (95 – 125 miles).

Safety is also at the heart of Volta Trucks, with the ambition to produce the safest trucks for our cities. The Volta Zero was designed for electric from the outset, which facilitates a step-change in vehicle, driver and pedestrian safety. Thanks to the removal of the internal combustion engine, the operator of a Volta Zero sits in a central driving position, with a much lower seat height than a conventional truck. This combination, plus a glass house-style cab design, gives the driver a wide 220-degrees of visibility, minimising dangerous blind spots.

Volta Trucks is also innovating with its Truck as a Service proposition that has revolutionised the financing and servicing of commercial vehicle fleets. Truck as a Service offers fleet managers a frictionless and hassle-free way to electrify their fleet by offering an all-inclusive service for a single, affordable, monthly fee. It provides access to an all-electric Volta Zero, with its charging infrastructure needs provided by world-leader Siemens, insurance through Europe’s premier insurtech broker, Qover, and servicing, maintenance, and training requirements, maximising the uptime and operational efficiency of the vehicle.
